Achieving Success in the New Year: Self-Reflection Questions for Women of Color [Updated for 2022]

As we close out another year and look ahead to 2023, it's important to take some time for self-reflection and goal-setting.

These questions can help guide your thinking as you consider what you're proud of, what you've learned, and what you hope to achieve in the year ahead:

  1. What did I prioritize in 2022 and how did it impact my overall well-being and success? This could include professional or personal goals, skills and training, or self-care practices. Reflect on what you focused on this past year and how it affected your overall satisfaction and achievement.

  2. What challenges did I face in 2022 and how did I overcome them? Think about any obstacles or difficulties you encountered this past year, and reflect on the strategies you used to overcome them. What did you learn from these experiences and how can you apply those lessons in the future?

  3. What surprised me about myself or my experiences in 2022? Think about any unexpected moments of growth or resilience, and how you can continue to build on these in the year ahead.

  4. What values and goals do I want to prioritize in 2023? Consider the things that are most important to you and how you can align your actions and decisions with these values in the coming year.

  5. What steps will I take to create meaningful change in 2023? Consider the actions you can take in your professional or personal life–like adopting a new task or habit, shifting your mindset, or working toward broader social change–to make meaningful impact and progress towards your goals in the coming year.
